Dagmar Else Slot is since 1997 dental hygienist and works in an public practise. She got a didactical and pedagogical degree and was a dental hygienist teacher at the educations in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Besides her work she graduated as a Master of Science with a grade in Evidence Based Practice from the department of epidemiology and biostatistics. Since 2007 Dagmar is a researcher at the Department of Periodontology of Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA). Besides the clinical research she is involved with systematic reviews. Dagmar is an associated editor of the International Journal of Dental Hygiene and an active member of the Dutch National dental hygienist association.
Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, BA, MS , is a Professional Member of the National Speakers Association, President of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists ( IFDH), a past ADHA President, and a graduate of the 2004-2006 fellowship of the California Health Care Foundation’s Health Care Leadership Program. A noted researcher, author, and speaker, Maria presents seminars globally, and is visiting faculty at the University of Rome and the University of Pisa. She is the winner of a number of awards.
Maria serves on the Editorial Review Board of the International Journal of Dental Hygiene, the Journal of Dental Hygiene, Prevenzione & Assistenza Dentale, and Access magazine. She has contributed textbook chapters, is co-editor of a dental hygiene textbook, and authored many articles.
Maria is a member of many organizations, and has appeared on network television and radio regarding the oral/systemic link and appeared on the Fox Health Network/WEBMD.TV -- The "Cutting Edge Medical Report.” She is a member of the National Advisory Committee for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Smoking Cessation Leadership Center. JoAnn R. Gurenlian, RDH, PhD, has a Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a Master’s degree in dental hygiene from Columbia University, and a Doctoral degree specializing in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Gurenlian has been active in dental hygiene for over 35 years having served as a former chairperson of the Department of Dental Hygiene at Thomas Jefferson University and former President of the ADHA. Presently, she is an entrepreneur offering consulting and continuing education services to health care professionals. She has experience as a clinician, educator, administrator, and researcher. Dr. Gurenlian is also Interim Graduate Program Director at Idaho State University, an adjunct faculty at the Department of Dental Hygiene of Burlington County College, and Visiting Faculty for Capella University.
Dr. Gurenlian served as author of the Dental Hygiene Diagnosis and Oral Medicine column for Access. She is the coauthor of the text Preventing Medical Emergencies: Use of the Medical History, has published over 120 papers, and conducted over 400 presentations. Dr. Gurenlian served as chair of the Advisory Committee on the Future of Dental Hygiene, and coauthored the report “Dental Hygiene: Focus on Advancing the Profession. Dr. Gurenlian presently serves as President-Elect of the International Federation of Dental Hygiene, and served as Chair of the Pharmacy, Podiatry, Optometry, and Dental Professionals Workgroup (PPOD) of the National Diabetes Education Program. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Alfred C. Fones Award, Irene Newman Award, ADHA/Warner Lambert Award for Excellence, and the ADHA Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Gurenlian is an internationally recognized speaker who addresses topics related to the dental hygiene process of care, oral pathology, oral medicine, diabetes, women’s health, women’s cancers, and leadership and professional development.
Jill Rethman has over 30 years experience in the dental hygiene profession. In 2002, she was named the Outstanding Member of the Hawaii Dental Hygienists’ Association. A graduate of The Ohio State University, she was named the OSU Outstanding Dental Hygiene Alumnus for 2004. Jill has presented programs throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan, and her articles have been featured in numerous dental and dental hygiene publications. She is the Editorial Director for Dimensions of Dental Hygiene. Jill participated in the American Academy of Periodontology's Committee on Dental Hygiene Education, and has co-authored a chapter for three text books: Comprehensive Periodontics for the Dental Hygienist, Periodontics: Medicine, Surgery and Implants and Dental Hygiene Concepts, Cases and Competencies. She is currently writing a text on oral health prevention strategies throughout life. Jill is a visiting Clinical Instructor at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, Department of Dental Hygiene, and an Adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University School of Dental Hygiene. In 2005, she received a Special Citation from the American Academy of Periodontology for her efforts in organizing the AAP’s Annual Dental Hygiene Symposium. She is honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the Sunstar Foundation for Oral Health Promotion and is the President Elect of the Hawaii Dental Hygienists’ Association.
